Here's an opportunity to help younger girls following in your footsteps. It would also show great leadership potential on a college application. Tell me if you're interested!

Subject: Girl volunteers needed!

Greetings FRC coaches of Oregon and southwest Washington!

My name is Julia Barrett and I am the current VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) at the Oregon Robotics Tournament & Outreach Program (ORTOP) office in Portland. Some of you may already know me, or have seen emails from me before. This year we are proud to have attained an Intel FIRST Girls Grant for FLL teams that we have in the state and have been able to award money to 16 all girls’ teams, including both rookie and veteran teams.

Part of what we are hoping to accomplish this season is to recruit, engage, and retain young girls in STEM programs. For the teams local to the Portland area, we are hoping to have a few girls from FRC teams volunteer to meet with some of these teams and meet the great young girls we have on these FLL teams. This is a great opportunity not only for FRC teams, but also for the FLL teams to see girls participating and using the knowledge they have from robotics in the real world.

If this sounds like an opportunity that girls from your team would be interested in, please let me know!
